The Joseph Rex Dinardo Jr. Herpetology Library, named after our late primary donor, is among the largest scientific herpetology libraries in the world. We host over 5,500 books, series of over 100 journals, and tens of thousands of scientific articles (reprints). These resources are open to qualified researchers as reference material on-site. Please reach out to us if you are interested in visiting our library.
Acknowledgments
UTA and the ARDRC extends its sincere thanks to all of the donors that have made this world-renowned library possible. In addition to our primary donor, the late Joseph Rex Dinardo Jr., this has included the three pillars of Central American/Mexican herpetology: Dr. Jonathan Campbell, former chair of the UTA Biology department, Dr. Jay Savage, and Randy McCranie, who donated not just literature, but original illustrations and artwork to adorn the library. We would also like to thank Dr. Dwight Lawson, William Lamar, and Fred Wagner, former alumni of UTA and the ARDRC who all contributed herpetological journals and books. Louis Porras and Hugh Quinn, collaborators of the ARDRC and our faculty, contributed a significant amount of literature as well. Our heritage (original) donations originated from the late Dr. William Pyburn, founder of the ARDRC, pioneer of Columbian herpetology, and professor in the UTA Biology department, as well as the late Dr. Howard K. Gloyd, a key figure in the history of the study of vipers. Finally, we would like to thank all of our affiliated faculty and students (numbering over 20 individuals) who helped with the enormous effort to sort, organize, and catalogue this collection so that it can be useable to scientists and publicly available on our website. We would like to thank Dr. Eric Smith in particular, who in addition to expending significant personal time and effort working with the collection, also donated over 1,000 books for ARDRC fundraising.
